Deck Sanding & Oiling — Central Coast NSW

Restore weathered outdoor timber decks with professional sanding and exterior-grade oiling — built for the Central Coast climate.

Deck Sanding & Oiling

The Central Coast climate is relentless on outdoor timber — UV, moisture, salt air and foot traffic turn a beautiful deck grey and fibrous within a few seasons if it's not maintained. Bay's sands back the damaged surface layer to clean, fresh timber and applies a quality exterior-grade oil or coating system that protects against the elements and brings the natural colour back to life.

The process

  • Assessment — board condition, species, existing coating type, any structural concerns
  • Preparation — sweep and clean, check and tighten fixings, remove splinters
  • Machine sand — belt or orbital sander depending on board profile; removes grey, raised grain and old coating
  • Spot repairs — cracked boards filled, loose boards re-fixed
  • Oil or coat application — penetrating oil soaks in and feeds the timber; 1–2 coats with absorption time between
  • Edging and finishing — between-board gaps, posts and balusters done by hand

Products & finishes

  • Penetrating hardwax oils — soaks into the grain, feeds the timber, resists moisture, natural look
  • Exterior-grade deck oils — UV-stabilised, suitable for all Australian hardwoods including spotted gum, ironbark, merbau and kwila
  • Tinted options — restore bleached timber to a consistent colour or change the tone
  • Clear or natural finishes — protect without masking the timber's character

How often does a deck need oiling?

As a general guide: a well-oiled hardwood deck in the Central Coast climate needs re-oiling every 1–2 years depending on sun exposure, foot traffic and whether the deck is covered or open. Gavin will assess your deck on-site and give you a realistic maintenance timeline. Keeping on top of it is far cheaper than a full replacement.
